Old Truth…

…It is sometimes easy to forget,

but before the ‘Old Truth’ was regarded as old

it was the ‘only truth’, and for some it still is.

As far as literalism goes,

it cannot be much more straightforward.

But it is always tempting to take literalism too far.

Regarding the earliest stories of the ‘Old Truth’,

as the earliest stories,

would be, for literalism, one step beyond.

The story of Cain and Abel replays the concerns

of Abraham and Isaac

from a much later point in their development

and then claims that the ‘events’ in the story

actually ocurred much earlier.

Sooner or later

such contrivance,

is bound to be found out!
