Functions in Time…

*

The effects of the past

on the present can be recognised

in the unconscious persistence

of our earliest psychological impressions.

*

And if the future enters into us

long before it happens, as is sometimes

supposed, then it too must also be in part present.

*

The past is not a dead thing fit only to be shunned,

nor the future an empty void awaiting fulfilment.

*

The past and present contain consequences

which both reflect and project.

*

And if the event in time be circular,

rather than linear, then we can

also add the future to this equation.
