Blood and Honey…

Fjalar and Galar poured honey

into the jars and the cauldron

filled with Kvasir’s blood.

They stirred the blood and honey

until it formed an intoxicating mead.

Whoever drank it became

a poet or a wise-man.

The dwarfs horded the mead.

No one else got to taste it.

No one even heard of it.

After a time the Aesir

sent messengers to ask after Kvasir.

The two dwarfs sent back word

that although incomparable

throughout the Nine Worlds,

Kvasir had choked to death on his own learning…
