Dear Wen: Extrusions…

Dear Wen…Arbor Low and Stanton Moor Imbolc 001 (99)

Well, I regard that as a tad unfair seeing as though my slug trails aren’t actually slug trails at all.

I quite like slugs anyway… admittedly it is not ideal to have herds of them wandering about the gaff like wildebeest on the Serengeti if that is indeed where such beasts hang out but the odd one dropping by to say hello is not too much of an imposition I shouldn’t have thought… Their ‘antennae’ are well cool… and fascinating to observe.

Ah, yes the synchronicities multiply indefinitely do they not?

Jung’s take on it was that such arbitrary correspondences speak of a greater reality the forms of which for the most part we can only grasp at like children trying to catch dreams… or butterflies…

snails and frog 003It does though make one wonder about the fabled abilities of the Egyptian magicians and such like, perhaps there is a science to this that can be learned, and then taught…

A part of that science would doubtless involve developing the ability not to grasp… to simply hold out ones hand receptively…and ask politely, and I suppose that’s what terms such as possessing an ‘open mind’ refer to… or indeed the ‘divine poverty’… the ability to listen too would be an important attribute… how often does the precise terminology or phraseology used point to the deeper reality of what has actually occurred?

Learn to frame your questions correctly and they answer themselves.

I was wondering about our imminent walkabout too…

We have a number of things to do… but whether that will be all we get to do remains to be seen which I suppose is all part of the fun…

Where will we end up on Thursday for example is a question currently shrouded in mystery?

The question of vandalism at the old sites is really too depressing to contemplate… as is the ego sigil…the desire to ‘make one’s mark’ as my old friend, Bill, from ‘The Reality Asylum’ used to say… a product of the deepest insecurity… but natural and understandable, perhaps.

Best let the Beast out before his demands for more… and more… and yet more cheese become too overwhelming…

  1. When I looked up the symbolic significance of slugs, I was quite amazed at how such a tiny creature can mean so much. I had questioned in my mind why slugs had become such a big topic, and I quickly realized that sometimes the smallest and seemingly most insignificant creatures or other things out in nature can be very strongly significant.

Just think of it. Here we have a creature with very little innate protection, and yet it wanders here and there on its own, often returning to the same place over and over again even though there is no food source for it, and even the bottom surface in a home is not something that would encourage it.

And we don’t know if it has a sense of smell or not, but likely it is not a sense that would focus on what is inside a home.

Its eyes are set at the ends of the antennas, and although it has no outer shell, it does have an internal shell, though I am not sure how strong that shell is. Basically it has no significant protection though for certain.

Its trails are easy to follow for most other slugs and other creatures, and I read that its trails are created by the water it drinks and then exudes from its body mixed with other bodily fluids.

I know how tiny slugs are, even the largest size ones, and yet most people fear it, and I wonder why when it is not an aggressive creature, travels without a genuine sound, and does no harm to anyone.

Isn’t interesting that so much of what is out in nature is feared by human beings? Is it because we don’t cross paths with what is out there often (most of us anyway) or because we don’t understand what it is and what it represents.

Now there is important symbolism connected with the slugs, and a very positive significance, but I will leave that for you to discover as I did. I believe it is good to become acquainted with ALL that exists in this world, not just other people – how can we come to understand our earth and universe if we cannot bring ourselves to examine closer all the things of this earth.

When I think of the tale of Gilgamesh, I think how very relevant this all is, and how I too must read that story again. It is so full of symbolic meaning that clearly we must come to understand and be comfortable with. It is truly amazing that a story with such depth and symbolic meaning was written so truly long ago. We have long thought of peoples who lived in those times as primitive, but now I truly wonder who are really the primitive people. Thank you so much. I truly enjoyed reading about the slugs. While I was not afraid of them, there was something that was uncomfortable about them, and now I understand what that was as I progress in my own personal growth and development. Take the time to get to look into the smallest and seemingly insignificant things we encounter. I think you will find as I did that there is something worth discovering and trying to understand.
