‘Getting it’…

*

The artist’s vision of the divine essence in nature

and the devotee’s awareness

of holy presence in the sacraments

are not entirely subjective.

*

Although such perceptions are not open to

all perceivers precisely because

knowledge is a function of being,

the known thing is independent of the mode

and nature of the knower.

*

What the artist sees and attempts to convey to us

is there just waiting to be apprehended,

by those with the appropriate faculties,

likewise, does the image and symbol of the scarament

actually hold the divine presence.
