…We had counted on leaving the ferry by six,
and being off the Isle of Skye,
by seven.
*
We were late off the ferry
and did not cross back onto the mainland
until eight.
*
Besides which, having to be somewhere
at a certain time tends to go against the grain
when holidaying, that is work stuff!
*
Normally we have a nebulous plan
which leaves lots of room
for unscheduled stops
when the landscape calls.
*
That particular luxury had been withdrawn.
*
Even though we had only been on the isles
for a couple of days
there was also a lingering notion
that the sun would not set
leaving us enough light to drive through the night.
*
Not so!
This is lovely. I thought it rained a lot in the Isle of Skye. We will be there in August.

I have thought about the day and nighttime and I think that the ancient peoples must have had a very special relationship with the dark. While it might have been a time when enemies could sneak up close, also I think it was a sacred time, and likely when all the festivals and rituals took place. Day held other things to think about and to manage, but night was when the sky spoke to the people and they to it.

I am a night person, and would much prefer to live in the dark. Probably related to the bats.
Everything is so much better then, and thinking works well too…

Bats get a bad press… Darkness and quiet can certainly aid contemplation… 😉
