Clarity…

All this talk of snow… Reminds me of December Nineteen-Eighty-One…  Never seen anything like it… Before or since… Knee deep… Waist deep where it had drifted… All that whiteness… Affects the senses… They shut sixth-form for the week… Which meant three-weeks off instead of two… Course, it didn’t last… How naive that was even a consideration… Fifties programming… Means the stuff happening now… It was being planned way back then… Way back before… Drip by drip… Like melting snow… Only we didn’t know… How could we?

Memory… It’s not what you think… It’s a creative faculty… It needs to be to fill in the gaps… Would things have been different without the white-out of snow… Undoubtedly… How different though? Not much… Probably… We wouldn’t have got any clues from sixth-form as to what was coming… Certainly… Although… Slater knew the history books didn’t tell things straight… Gotta work it out for yourself… He even said as much… More or less… Creative imagination… Seeing all the links now… The thing is… The only creative thing we had at the time… Was music!

The musical ‘head charge’ is a function of memory… Making memory replay like that… It’s a magical thing… Almost supernatural… A start right there… Slippery People… How slippery?… Very, very slippery… Ice underfoot… Black ice can kill… Lay you low… Two versions of the slippery song… Played back to back… Could dance to both… But that was later… Later still… Alchemy… Fire and Ice… An index of possibilities… All clues… Easy to see now… And right about then… AIDS… Why should we worry? The Invaders with… Stiff Little Fingers… Singing… Suspect Device… Drip, drip… Tick, tick, tok, tok, tick…
