…Of New Years Day Past

***

The second memory… Stands isolated… Just a fragment… Dropped off from a taxi… At Fee’s House… Drunk… Singing New Years Day… No idea what came before… Or what came after… Could try an experiment… After waving Mark and Penny off in the taxi… I turn and walk towards the door… The door swings open… It’s pretty much as I remember it… But there’s no one in there… Even upstairs… Maybe if I stay here long enough something will happen… I close my eyes… And when I open them Bob and Fee are there… The three of us toast the New Year… Then Fee goes upstairs to bed.

Whenever I try to ask Bob… About where we have been that night… It’s like he doesn’t hear me… Or to put it another way… Bob starts to display Cognitive Dissonance… Quite understandably… Because technically… I should know where we have been…. But in the circumstances… It’s a very suggestive application of the technique… Don’t you think?… Anyway… The next morning… Fee comes down early… Just like she did… And I am glad… Because she’s all warm from her bed… This definitely happened… Just not necessarily then… Which is why I kept questioning Bob… But alas, all to no avail…

So… There… You… Have it… Music and memory… There’s no telling where it may lead… Imagine… If Bob had answered my questions… The possibilities are endless… As I am sure you will appreciate… And… On this newly crafted… Day of all days… We shall simply have to content ourselves… With the words from a song… Sung badly… And quite loudly… And utterly out of tune… But with frivolous abandon… And no little intent… I… Will… Be … With… You… Again… I will be… with you again… We could even make them into a sort of magical prayer… Simply by saying… It is done… At… The end.

We'd love to hear from you...
