Lolita…

***

Saul Judd’s dad… Was Irish… Although, with a name like Saul… I doubt his mum was… A little Irishman… Is how Jed described him… When he came around to visit at the flat… And he was… It is true… Of relatively small stature… When compared to Jed… Certainly… But that was much… Much later… Time playing tricks again… And even… The book incident… Which seems like it ought to be much later… But clearly wasn’t… Sensibly, it should be around the time of the film… Because the film referenced the book… And the film was released… In the summer… Of Nineteen-Eighty-Two.

The book in question…  A paperback copy of… Do Androids… And Mister Judd was very circumspect about the people… To whom he lent the book… Not breaking the spine of the book… In fact… It was a condition of him lending the book… Explained at great length… And with great exactitude… The book was taken… But was returned some time later… Unread… It seemed somehow sullied… Having such conditions put upon it… And the man clearly did not really want to release the book from his possession… Strange, how these insignificant things… Can so colour an opinion of a person.

***

Fear of reading… Why, would anyone seek to impose such a thing?… Fear of anything for that matter… Fear of living… Possibly the worst thing that anyone could seek to do… Ever… And we now have a whole class of people… Dedicated to doing just that… And paid vast sums of money for doing so… And those people who we used to rely upon for common sense and non compliance in the face of such utter nonsense… Appear to uphold these same… Insane dictates… In return… Again… For money… Lots and lots of lovely lolly… That Lolita… Should spring to mind… Is perhaps… No accident.

We'd love to hear from you...
