‘Anno Domini’…

***

The Lords Year… As opposed to the Lords Prayer… Or, as some would say… In the year of Our Lord… Using Our Lord… Like the Catholics use… Our Lady… Before years belonged to the Lord… They were Before Christ… Well, that’s what we were taught… Anyway… Sometime after that… People… Mainly archaeologists… Started referring to the Common Era… Which term designated what we would formerly have called one of the Lord’s years… And consequently, also… Before the Common Era… Turning what was formerly… Something rather special… Into something… Well, not special at all.

***

So much… For archaeologists… And progress… And so much… For the language of science… Which clearly only purports to… Stem from the Classical World… Monkey spent seven years eating peaches… Before he learned to somersault clouds… And thus travel One-Hundred-And-Eight-Thousand miles… In a leap… Which is rather more than… Can be garnered… From a seven-league stride!… Maybe our Iconic Lady… Was not proffering an apple at all… But a peach… It is, at least, possible?… Not only did the peaches allow Monkey to somersault clouds… They also made him an Immortal…

***

It was kind of a foregone conclusion… Once he’d acquired his name… And it’s beginning to look like Sandy… Will be a ‘sea-like’ immortal… And Pigsy… A ‘natural’ immortal… But that would be to anticipate… The story somewhat… Which seems a trifle… Unnecessary… Especially as things are quite complicated enough… As they are… Before qualifying for Immortality… Monkey turned down the three classical religions of Ancient China… Which were Taoist… Confucianism… and Buddhism… Which isn’t a religion at all… The Lord alone knows what he would have made of their current religion…

We'd love to hear from you...
