More peaches…

***

It may be worth… Considering… The peaches of immortality… For a bit longer… If the story does represent an authentic conception… Which it may… It would not originally… Have taken the form… It now does… Presumably… Living in heaven… Is akin to immortality?… Using the following reasoning… Humans are mortal… The gods are immortal… Humans live on earth… The gods live in heaven… So the peaches which confer immortality… Must grow on earth… And not in heaven… If these peaches grow on earth… They are unlikely to have the ‘heavenly’ inflated ripening periods…

***

So instead of Three thousand… Six thousand… And nine thousand years… May we suggest the more earthy periods… Of three, six and nine years?… This is not beyond the realms… Of possibility… After all… Olive trees, famously, produce their harvest… Only once… Every seven years… The descriptions of the immortal fruit… May have been… Jumbled… As also… The results… Of eating the different fruits… Though, these should… At least…. Correspond… If they are to make… Any sense at all… Each tree was smothered in deep pink blossoms… And groaned… With golden fruit…

Picking… And eating… A fruit… From the first section… Of trees with small flowers… Conferred a strong body… Which stayed on earth… But never grew old… Picking and eating… A fruit from the second section… Of trees with fruit… Containing pale yellow stones… Conferred a light body… Which floated up to heaven… And lived as long… As sun and moon… Picking and eating… A fruit… From the third section… Of trees with large fruit… With purple veins running through them… Conferred… A heavenly life… Of immortality… But even here… It would still… Be possible… To quibble…

We'd love to hear from you...
