Tiger Lily…

***

Was… Monkey Jive!… Really?… Could it be… That Dennis… And his boys… Were also acquainted… With our irrepressible… Stone Monkey?… It seems unlikely… Jive by this time… Had morphed… From a hip Jazz dance… Into something… Highly unreliable… When spoken… Or talked about… A jive monkey… Was someone… Who promised to do things… But never did… And that… Is as close… As we’ll ever get… To understanding… This, not very good, song… The musicianship is competent… Dennis gives it his vaudeville all… But, well really… The best we can muster… It is a song… In search of… An Eye Dee.

Curious… How we circle… Around the self same… Concepts… Time and again… Like Amerindians unsettling a wagon train… Our train has three carriages… Of past… Present… And future… But our front and back carriages… Both have engines attached… Which means we can travel… Both ways… Only our present… Appears confined… Sandwiched… Between its uncertain future… And unverifiable past… We need to understand… That the Id… Is an entity… With a fully developed soul… Rooted in its ancestry… Not recognising this… Simply means… One is… And shall remain… A bastard of the State…

***

For all time… Our Tiger Lily, though… Is not Mister Barrie’s… Fictional character… But an ironic allusion… To the flowers’ symbolic meaning… Of wealth and pride… Again a fitting place to finish up… Especially when starting out… The band looked like a cross between… The New York Dolls… Without make-up… And the Oscar Wilde… Appreciation society… Of its day… And sound… About as good… It is hard to imagine… That two years later these guys… Will be punks… Or at least… Pseudo-punks… What happened?… A switch… Remember that?… Was flicked!… Makes it sound… Mechanical… Does it not?

We'd love to hear from you...
