A Theatre of Base Comedy…

***

Games Without Frontiers… Was a very clever… And poignant skit… On the popular Tee-Vee show… It’s A Knockout… Based as it was… On the original French show… Jeux Sans Frontières… Ol’ Gabby… With a little help from the… Bushta… Served up… A nightmare nuclear vision… For the eighties… Which was not dispelled until… Frankies… Two Tribes… The persistent comparison throughout… Between our politicians… And the games… Of children… Still holds good to this day… And is in fact… Possibly even more pertinent… With a plethora… Of high-chair tyrants… Now holding prime positions… In the West.

The shows themselves… Served up slapstick family fun… At the start of the weekend… And were for a longtime… Very popular… The long time host of the British version… Also a hugely popular figure… Turned out to be… A paedophile… Convicted and now released… But never again seen… On prime time Tee-Vee… At least he had enough integrity… To be shame-faced… About his… Condition… These days… This is rare… And there is a push… From certain sections… Within society… To have such crimes  and activities made legal… The peccadilloes… Of the rich and famous… Are drenched in decadence.

The video to the song… Also riffed on all this… Showing various communal sports… And the co-ordinated flag waving… At mass rallies… And ended… With the nuclear mushroom cloud… Which first resembles a babies face… And then morphs into… A grinning… Clown… Monkey, it was not!… But it did seem prophetic… Of the position we now find ourselves in… What real statesman would not take advantage of this western weakness… And what response… Can we here in Britain… Actually muster… Militarily?… Why, we could only… Send in the clowns… Because, well, that is all… We have now got!
