Art, Film, Trickster

One small step…

***

Is all it takes… To commence… The journey… Of a thousand miles… According to Lao Tsu… Ancient Chinese… Immortal Sage… Even though… The Ancient Chinese… Didn’t have miles… Or indeed thousands… Anyway… The moon… Is Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand miles… Away from the earth… And in Nineteen-Sixty-Nine… The United States of America… Put a man there… Only, fifty years on… There are now many people… Who believe… It never actually happened!… It was hailed at the time as a historic moment… But in the intervening years… The raw data and records of the event have gone!

***

Gone?… No longer to be found… Lost?… Or misplaced… Or hidden… From sight… Out of sight… Out of mind… But it was a historic moment… Wasn’t it?… Allegedly… In Two Thousand and Four… When interest was again revived… In going back to the moon… An American congressman… Stated that the Chinese… Were also interested in getting there… And that they really needed to be beaten to it… Forgetting, presumably… That America… Had already won that particular race… At that time… Some Thirty-Five years previously… There have been a couple of film references to all this over the years.

***

Capricorn One… Starring Elliot Gould… Pretty much sets out… What many people… Now believe to have happened… But more cryptically… The seventh Bond film… Diamonds are Forever... Contains the notorious… Moon Buggy scene… Seemingly from nowhere… And leaves the viewer dangling… As to what they are actually watching… Much like the Tee Vee… Audience in Sixty-Nine… Perhaps… It is worth mentioning… That even at the time… There were many people who openly sneered… And laughed at the notion… And particularly… The ‘film’ footage… Beamed into suburban living rooms.
