Three wrongs…

***

It was with a sense of shock… That the Journey to the West… Ended yesterday… Having not got to the end of the Tee Vee version… It seemed right somehow… For Monkey… And Pigsy… And Sandy… And Tripitaka… And Horse… To be wandering the mythological landscapes… Of Old China… For the rest of time… Leastways… That is how it had always been… And always would be… In the minds eye of memory… There was a token effort in the last two episodes to convert Monkey… Into some sort of moral being… Which for obvious reasons did not sit right at all… And, if anything, felt morally wrong!

***

And like other epics before it… There seemed to be more than one ending… Shades of Blade Runner too… Which meant that a ‘satisfying for the masses’… But for no one else… Buddhist ending had been added… Again, all wrong… When it was clear… That the original ending saw our motley… Of a fourteen-year long pilgrimage… Presented with scrolls of enlightenment… Which had nothing written on them!… The end is in the journey… Carped Buddha himself… Or words to that effect… All, alas, to no avail… As the rewards were meted out… To one and all… The journey is the reward… It really is!

***

Or at least… It should be… But who now possess the nous to comprehend this?… Not the guardians of democracy… That’s for sure… Rule of the people… By the people… Which means… We the people… Not they the elite… Make the rules… And those that do not abide by them… Fall by the wayside… Redundant… Like the latest pathetic scare story… Fitting then… That an actor famed for playing a gangster… Duped into believing he was a good fellow… Should shuffle off his mortal coil… At precisely this juncture… Another synchronicity… Amongst many… For those… With Monkey eyes!
