Creggandevesky…

County Tyrone, Wednesday, June 18, 2022…

***

***

Another court-cairn…

*

But one which we had to search for,

it being tucked away behind a coterie

of farm houses, a dirt track, and a field full of cows.

***

***

The tall grasses of the rise

on which this site perches was undisturbed

and made us all feel like pioneers, of sorts.

*

…The structure is a little less skeletal

than the last example we encountered

and still has all its kerb-stones in situ.

***

***

It is unlikely, but not impossible,

that cave-lions

still roamed these lands

when this monument was constructed.

***

***

Nor, indeed, tension-steel rods!

*

If such modern technology

can ever be said to roam.

***

***

Nevertheless, the threshold still

retains some of its other-worldly promise.

***

***

Which is now

open to the elements.

***

***

And in ‘the court’

where magical ceremonies

may once have taken place?

***

***

Wild flowers!
