Gjalp’s Tale…

…So, Loki tricks Thor into Jottunheim,

weaponless, by promising him some truck

with Geirrod’s ‘daughters’.

By way of a sweetener the two gods

stop off at Grid’s en route.

But Grid warns Thor

about Geirrod’s nature and loans

him her belt of strength, her iron gloves,

and her indestructible staff.

When halfway across the river Vimur,

the flow rises to a torrent

and Thor sees the giantess, Gjalp,

sitting astride the water up river.

Thor hurls a rock at the giantess

to stem her flow

and Gjalp falls into the water

with a howl.
