I worry about her sometimes, you know. She gets the weirdest ideas. I mean, don’t know about the rest of you two-legses… is it just the way your eyes work or do you see with something else instead? Me, I’m a dog, so I see as much with my nose and ears as I do with my eyes. More, really. So I can understand if you use something else too. I just haven’t worked out what it is yet.
Take this morning… it’s a lovely morning, all damp and cool and sunny. Autumn, she says and sniffs the air, for all the world as if she were a dog. We were out early and I had a good romp in the fields. She even let me chase a rabbit. Well okay, by ‘let’ I mean that I was already off the leash and she can’t run that fast. Anyway, by the time we got back I was ready for a nap so I climbed up onto the back of the sofa. I can keep an eye on stuff from there. I managed to convince her that I’d look cleaner when I’d finished drying out so I didn’t really need a bath (yeah, she’s off on that one again…)
I’m just about to nod off when, “There’s a ghost in the fish tank,” she says. ” A ghost dog.” Well, that woke me up. It’s bad enough when she watches stuff with dogs in on here… they bark and I have to check… but a ghost dog? Either she’d lost the plot again or this needed ‘vestigating!
Well, she had the camera thingy out already and I opened one eye to see what she was talking about. Sure enough, there’s a shadowy looking dog in there, but even I’m not that daft. Honestly… she woke me up just for a reflection!
She’s always going on about reflections and how we have to see ourselves through the eyes of others. Now, that seemed a bit awkward to me, but you can see yourself in the eyes of others. I can read a lot of stuff with my eyes closed, but that’s ’cause I’m a dog with a proper Nose. Your noses are not so good. Or your ears… Then I got to thinking, ’cause she does talk in metafours riddles sometimes.
Maybe she’s talking about how you see with something other than your eyes…Then I wondered… maybe the thing you two-legses can see with really well is your heart. Who knows…maybe that’s as good as a Nose?
Anyway, I have to go and help her out. She’s chasing a big flying thing round the living room, trying to herd it outside… a dragonfly she calls it. I’ve not seen one of them inside before. She needs an expert…
Much love,
Ani
