Torhousekie Stone Circle

Dumfries and Galloway, Saturday, 29th October, 2022

***

***

One of the most easily accessible

and most complete stone circles in Britain!

***

***

The ring of nineteen-stones, graded in height,

with the tallest in the south-east,

surrounds a central platform of small boulders

containing three large stones.

***

***

Folklore designates it another ‘Tomb of King Gauldus’

whom we met at Cairn Holy.

*

It is unlikely this site has ever been used as a tomb

but it has not been excavated.

*

Use of the same name may indicate a connection

between the sites of quite another sort.

***

***

Nineteen stones suggests measurement

of the nineteen year Metonic Cycle.

*

The central stones would here

represent, sun, moon, and earth.
