Station to Station: Symbolism…

x hobhurst, ballcross, bakewell, sheffield weekend 003

Jesus retains his golden halo in death.
On being stripped Jesus’ right palm faces outward his left palm inward.
‘Joseph’ first appears holding a scroll.

Jesus appears to be scourged every time he falls.
‘Joseph’s’ hierophantic gesture appears to raise Jesus from the cross.
The INRI scroll only appears on the cross that crucifies Jesus.

‘Joseph’ remains robed and hooded throughout.
The cloth that Veronica uses to wipe Jesus’ face retains his mirror image.
Jesus is placed in a three-tiered tomb.
