… “Vastly different, why?”
*
“Precisely! Why Penrith, anyway?”
*
“Because we know it now…”
*
“We nearly stopped off at Castlerigg on the way up…”
*
“…and have worked with it. Indeed we did.”
*
We are again approaching familiar territory,
and the sparing use of motorways
has meant we now have a little more time
to stop off at places should we so wish.
*
It is too late, though, for most of our pre-trip laid plans.
*
“What about Old Hadrian?”
*
“The Romans and their infernal walls are hardly going to work for me,
now are they? However, as we are in the area.”…
*
… “And there you have it!”
*
“I have what?”
*
“That’s what the Romans were trying to keep out.”
*
“Beauty!”
Now there’s an interesting thought.

I would go forward to say “natural beauty,” though they did create some things that were beautiful in a natural sort of way. But the way of life was not one that was natural.
