…In the Machine

***

If you don’t already know… Blade Runner… Is about ‘being’… And how we got to be here… There is a Chinese character behind Deckard’s head in the street scene… And its the character for ‘being’… The choice of China back then is prophetic… Wouldn’t you say?… The android played by Jo Cass works in a strip joint with a huge snake… It’s tempting to think that Scott is wiping out Eve from the biblical Genesis… But it is more likely that the reference is to Lilith… Adam’s first wife, who has already been removed by the redactors… Deckard’s ‘weedy-perv’ impression makes much more sense in this light…

Jon picked up on it straight away… Which might seem strange… But Jon was Catholic… So maybe not… Cognitive Dissonance… Psychologically speaking, is a defence mechanism… More specifically, its a defence mechanism of the Ego… The Id, on the other hand… Delights in these impossible coincidences… Lives for them… If the Id had a vocabulary… It would call them synchronicities… And quite correctly declare that they make the world go around… That can’t work for the Ego… Because the Ego can neither predict nor control synchronicities… Which means… They cannot exist…

Must have been mistaken?… Nope!… Checked it years later… Jo Cass… It’s not even a projection… That used to happen a lot… Projecting into a programme… Occurrences from your own life… And then believing the programme was referencing you… That’s close to paranoia… Which is part of the same mechanism… Gone haywire… But this… Was verifiable… Still is… The first night we spent with Jo… And her sister Sam… Was Halloween… They both dressed as ghosts… With white sheets… And we went to the cemetery… Now… Pick the bones out of that one…

We'd love to hear from you...
