‘Landmarks’…

In our heady rush… To Man Friday’s Post… A number of landmarks… Have emerged… And that is now… The way to go… Janet’s party… Is one… Although… Strictly speaking… It was not a party… More a gathering of friends… Lots of spaces… And only a few faces… Come to mind… Another… Is the cold-sore… Also at the nite-club… But straddling… The middle distance… And then… We recalled… That many of the Man Friday nights… Were actually real birthday parties… Which initially looks like a rather… Ingenious way to put some structure… Into these memories.

Births… Deaths… And marriages… It has been thought of before… Clearly… Jay-Kays birthday bash… Is memorable… For the limp stream… Of bubbly… Dribbling from his… Birthday bottle… As he left the dance-floor… Penny’s too… For other reasons… And Marty’s… But after that… The landmarks… Begin to totter… And in any case rely… On remembering when all these birthdays were… And fade… And we are again left with… Janet’s nebulous gathering… And the cold-sore… There was also a party at the Gynn… When Fee was not well… To put… After ‘Janet’… But before the ‘cold-sore’…

Before and after… Science… Has also been done… By the mighty Brian… And because… Of how things have worked out… Before and after… Janet… Is now a reality… Sad… But true… And not… Very helpful… If we were expecting the memories… To cluster… Around our monumental… Landmarks… And hence reveal themselves… We would be disappointed… The monuments… Stand… Not particularly… Straight… Tall… Or proud… Largely alone… With very little… To say for themselves… One way… Or the other… We must be missing something… But it is very hard… To know… What that might be…
