Another Green Track…

Dumfries and Galloway, Friday, 28th October, 2022…

***

***

All this talk of ‘green-stone’ axes,

and giants, puts me in mind of Gawain

and his, in the event, supernatural foe…

*

What advice could he give, we wonder?

“It is not mind that moves the soul,

it is music, and music comes from the other-world.”

*

The leaves in this part of the country

fall early, otherwise what we would have here

is another green tunnel and, as we know,

there is no telling what lies beyond those things…

***

***

In this particular case

it turns out to be a disused kirk.

*

The back end of which has been transformed

into a ‘mini-museum’ of sorts or,

alternatively, a glass case for old stones.

***

***

There is a lot to unpick in this

‘stone under glass’ thing.

*

It is always preferable to see the stones

in their natural state and in their original positions,

although for many reasons this is not always possible.

*

The reflections from the glass

make photography all but pointless.

***

***

And all that is before we get to the actual

claims made about the stones.

*

Which are clearly nothing at all to do

with early Christianity in these isles,

still, what should we expect from a kirk

disused or otherwise?

***

***

Country road, take me home…

***

***

And glass,

glass under stone

shall be the whole of the law!
