Dear Wen: ‘The Dark Virgin’…

Dearhawk hill nick 2441 Wen…

Great to see the Red Kite flying over the tower.

It always was a great location and now with Red Kites to boot…

Good, too, that the tree stump has been disposed of.

It caused us such a lot of trouble didn’t it?

And we never really worked out what it was all about.

And the ‘Gothic’ post-card.  Urrgh! Sometimes, ‘The Piper’, has a lot to answer for… I can’t imagine what they were thinking… the rainbow one sounds much better.

Don’t ever recall seeing the St John Light… walking around with my eyes closed half the time…

Or the wall paintings in the embrasures…

May have to pay another visit when I’m over…

Chapter six is coming along… White Horses and the Sea-God, Mananaun, made an unscheduled appearance. I tried to ignore them of course but couldn’t write any more until I’d put them in…

We may have a new quest… the Derbyshire landscape has already been partitioned into twelve, in 1976 by John Barnett, but he didn’t have the figures for the Zodiac and didn’t know where to look for them.

The figures may be hidden in the stones at Arbor Low…

Those local maps always have their own idiosyncrasies though quite what the Merman with attendant Dragon might be relating too, is something of a puzzle… Could be worth a look, though how you’d go about spotting them in the landscape is another challenge entirely.

We could try to interest Ben in a helicopter…?

Sampled the beer you bought… not bad… tastes a bit like Dandelion and Burdock…

I’ve been thinking, it’s time young Anu grew out of this Ball Thing…
Can’t spend all his days chasing flourescent green things… the sort of endeavour which, in my opionion at least, is best left to tennis players… Perish the thought… So I’ve bought him some books.

A little light reading to start, ‘The World as Will and Representation’ by Arthur Schopenhauer should whet his appetite, and then maybe, ‘Beyond Good and Evil,’  by Friedrich Nietzsche, that will probably keep the ball rolling in the right direction…

Failing that I’ve also bought him… a bridle!

Looking forward to coming over, re-forge the Sword of Destiny, as it were…

Alle oop!

Finding Don & Wen

Stuart France & Sue Vincent

Available via Amazon UKAmazon.com

and worldwide in paperback and for Kindle.

Two friends living hundreds of miles apart inadvertently begin to explore the magical and ancient landscape of Albion, delving into the symbolism hidden within mediaeval churches and piecing together the clues that appear to be left before them like a breadcrumb trail.

The correspondence within this book was written as their adventures began to unfold, recording and highlighting strange concepts and magical ideas.

Finding Don and Wen opens an inner door onto the workings of the journey of The Initiate, the first of nine books that tell the full story of what became a true quest, becoming a practical guide on how to listen to and interpret the voice of the living land and its history from a spiritual perspective.

    1. ‘White horses’ are an Irish poetic kenning for the waves of the sea as they ‘gallop’ up the shore. A similar idea was utilised by Tolkien to ‘do’ for the black riders in ‘Fellowship’, spectacularly rendered in the film version. Mananaun, the Irish Sea God, gave his name to the Isle of Man…

  1. I REALLY Love frogs. Growing up in El Paso, TX, we had these tiny frogs that could sit on the fingertip of your littlest pinky. They live in a state of metamorphosis when the ground is dry. When there is rain and puddles, they come out of the ground into the puddles, reproduce and go back when the puddle is gone. Although they are very tiny, they can make a very big awaaaaark, awaaaaaaark (no, not ribbit, ribbit) sound. I have always related to pigs, frogs, and funny insects. What can I say? I just love them! If I could have all of them for pets, I would. Not monkeys though because they need to swing through and live in the trees, and it is too hard for me to get up into one today.

  2. Interpreting symbols by others that have faded with time…
that is indeed a poetic challenge, especially concerning the Zodiac of which there originally were 13 signs… look up Ophiuchus. 🙂
“Ophiuchus is the serpent bearer, symbolized by a man clutching a snake,” Edut says. In terms of its defining personality traits, she says it possesses a combination of those associated with Scorpio and Sagittarius, the signs it succeeds and precedes.”
