Dear Don: Numbers…

Glaston weekend 283Dear Don,

Do you suppose the 6 and the 9 being the same numerical ‘symbol’ inversed also indicate the inner/outer connection? Certainly the Yin Yang symbol that looks at the polarities and the intimate relationship between them looks awfully like a 6 and a 9 nestled up to each other.

And that’s without getting all astrological and starting on the Fishes.

Which makes me wonder, you know, about the Cerne Abbas Giant and exactly what he is portraying on that hillside. I know we know what happened there… and that would fit too.

Cerne Abbas B (1)I wouldn’t mind betting there are legends of hollow hills and the Fae round there either.

“…but they leave him a pledge
Either their mantels of green, or else their maidenhead.”

There’s a Carterhaugh in Selkirkshire, you know… with fairy rings apparently…

I’ll have to try and get back out with the camera to North Marston… I’d quite like to take a look at the holy well anyway. There’s more to this Schorne thing than meets the eye.

Crowell, Nativity of the blessed virgin (34)I see what you mean about the dragon and the devil though… different manifestations of the earthly or earthy… which brings us back round to Genesis and the serpent, doesn’t it? I can’t get over that verse, you know… “…man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever….” Not one tree but two, and the implications of those Scions of Eden are still roiling away in my mind.

In fact, there is still a lot in Genesis we need to have a think about, “…the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.” Even there the intimate connection between wood and water is made evident.

But as to the tapping of the birds on the ground to raise the worms… have you ever seen a Yorkshire worm-charmer at work?ani

The Beast seems to be picking up nicely, though no doubt there will be relapses when the chicken runs out.
