Leaving the ‘Ghoul Stone’ was not easy…
***
***
But there were other delights to be sampled.
***
***
The literature associated with the site
makes much of the contrast between
the red sandstone giants
and the white boulder circles.
***
***
Out in the field this did not really register
but once back in the study
perusing the photographs
the contrast becomes quite startling.
*
It inevitably brings to mind thoughts
of Long Meg and her Daughters,
a large stone circle and much earlier outlier,
in Cumbria, where something similar was obviously afoot.

But what, then, of the blue stones?

If we were doing colours,
then our next stop looked promising!

Is that another painting by Sue?

No, that’s an unattributed artist from the info board on Machrie Moor… Some of those things are better than others… Unfortunately, Sue never made it to Arran or Ireland although we had plans for both… My trips last year, and hopefully this are places we wanted to visit together…😉

I’m so sorry to hear that Sue never got to see all this – but I suspect she’s traveling with you.
