Finding the path…

“We should write a book…”

Over the wineglasses, it seemed like a good idea. Not that anyone would believe the half of what we would have to recount. Far from exaggerating our adventures and jumping on the bandwagon of sensationalism, we would probably have to tone them down a little. Not everyone believes in magic.

There was no lightning strike called down by some evil villain, no waving of wands or chanting of barbarous names… but magic was what we found in the living land, its ancient and sacred places… and in the birds that appeared to be guiding us on a quest we barely realised we were beginning. It was a journey that would see us questioning the meaning of beheaded saints painted on the walls of a medieval church and the arcane stories hidden in plain sight. It would lead us along the dragon lines, teaching us to listen to the whispering of the land and into the realms of vision.

It was a journey where “nothing happened”… and everything changed.

We wrote the story. It was not the first book for either of us, but it was to be the first of many that we would write together, documenting a magical and spiritual quest through history, symbolism and the ancient places of Albion.

That was several years ago now and the ninth book of the series is well under way. In the meantime, we decided to revise and re-edit the original book and give it a new cover. By publishing the illustrated book in black and white, we have also been able to release it at a far more affordable price than its full-colour predecessor.

We intended to launch the new edition at our Quest for a Quest weekend workshop in April, but it was the world, not the book, that went viral… and the workshop, which will visit some of the pivotal sites in the book, has now been postponed until next year.

So, without further ado, we present the new edition of The Initiate…

THE INITIATE

Book One of the Triad of Albion

Stuart France & Sue Vincent

The Initiate is the story of a journey beyond the realms of our accustomed normality.

It is a true story told in a fictional manner. In just such a way did the Bards of old hide in the legends and deeds of folk heroes, those deeper truths for those ‘with eyes to see and ears to hear’.

Don and Wen, two founding members of a new Esoteric School, meet to explore an ancient sacred site, as a prelude to the School’s opening event. The new School is to be based upon a nine-fold system and operate under the aegis of the Horus Hawk.

The trip does not unfold as planned.

Instead, Don and Wen, guided by the birds, find themselves embarking upon a journey that will lead them through a maze of spiritual symbolism, to magical mysteries and the shadowy figure of the Ninth Knight.

As the veils thin and waver, time shifts and the present is peopled with shadowy figures of the past, weaving their tales through a quest for understanding and opening wide the doors of perception…
